Have you ever thought to yourself, what would life be without religion?
What if there was no set of rules, handed down to you by a supreme being that clearly outlined how to live your life.
What if no one believed that their crimes would be punished, or their good deeds rewarded by a higher power?
Would you behave the same way you do now? Would u still forgive people, would u still believe that things will work out, while not doing anything to make sure it does?
Would you step on people to get where you want to be in life, or would you help your fellow men and women to be great.
What would stop you from sleeping with a man's wife...Ohh never mind..
What would stop you from stealing or killing....uhmm..scrap that too..
Where would you get your daily dose of hope and upliftment from?
What would you put your faith in? Yourself? Someone else? Material things?
Would you...be comfortable and safe with living in a world, where no one believed in a god.
What if you were not promised a place of eternal bliss for living a life that pleases a deity? Would you still be a GOOD person? Would you still hold your tongue? Would you still donate, volunteer, help?
If there was no religion...would you still be who you are....?
Thought provoking.... I most likely would still be who I am - since I'm not 'religious' in any sense of the word.
ReplyDeleteThis was a good read... I am in no way religious, however I do believe my life would've been less of a struggle growing up had I not been introduced to religion.

ReplyDeleteInsightful, and neither am i religious, but i do think sometimes that there has to be a higher power, though i cant explain it. I think a world without religion would be one where people made logical decisions instead of using "morality" as justification and a base on which to live. I would still be who i am though.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest as a Christian I don't know where I would be right now if there was no God or laws. I would not even be alive. I can't imagine a world without laws, rules or a God. I honestly think there would be turmoil all around. But the laws of God keeps us in check and guides us as to how to live.
ReplyDeleteSomeone above said they are not religious hence they would be no change, forgetting that while they may not conform entirely to say christianity we all innately follow some of its guidelines mainly cause of society. Whether we are a part of religion we are still influenced by it in some way shape or form. It would be different though if religion was forgotten as with it its rules (before say our birth), without its guidelines we would be one crazy bunch nothing to instill morals or values. Without religion how would you know that stealing is wrong or murder? Bear in mind that society laws are based predominantly on the ten commandments.
